The Bear River, the largest tributary to Little Traverse Bay, originates at Walloon Lake and flows 12 miles to its confluence with the Bay after flowing through downtown Petoskey.

As part of a grant from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI), Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council restored the Click Road-stream crossing to allow the restoration of both the natural streambed and the river’s hydraulics.
The Maxwell Road Crossing of Minnehaha Creek is part of the Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council’s ongoing efforts to improve road/stream crossings within Northern Michigan for the benefit of water quality, stream habitat, and public safety.
The lower section of Tannery Creek was one of the most impaired systems in Northern Michigan. Improvements included removal of the existing, undersized culvert and replacement with a timber bridge.
Every dollar invested in Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council helps leverage government and foundation grants for much needed local water quality monitoring and pollution prevention, invasive species management, shoreline restoration, education, and much more.
