Empowering Educators for Watershed Stewardship
Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council (TOMWC) invites teachers of upper elementary to high school students (grades 3-12) to participate in a two-day Watershed Educator Training workshop on February 27 and 28, 2025. This workshop is designed for educators in the Watershed Council’s service area, with preference given to teachers from the Alanson, Cheboygan, Inland Lakes, Onaway, Pellston, Vanderbilt, and Wolverine school districts in Northern Michigan.

This workshop is limited to 12 educators. Please register early to secure your spot.

Workshop Details:

  • Dates: Thursday, February 27 and Friday, February 28, 2025
  • Time: 9 AM – 2 PM (Lunch provided)
  • Location: Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council 426 Bay Street, Downtown Petoskey
  • Cost: Free
  • Teacher Stipend: $250 will be provided to each participating teacher
  • Grant Funding: Participants can apply for additional grants ranging from $500-$1,000 to purchase materials for implementing watershed education in their classrooms.

Program Overview:
This workshop will prepare educators to teach place-based watershed education using curriculum-aligned instructional tools and strategies. Training will address watershed-specific topics such as stormwater impacts, agricultural practices, and shoreline management. Participants will connect with a network of STEM educators and environmental professionals for ongoing support. TOMWC will continue to serve as a resource for implementing these lessons in classrooms.

Who Should Attend:

  • Teachers (grades 3-12) in the TOMWC service area
  • Preference given to teachers from the Cheboygan River Watershed and underserved communities in Northern Michigan
  • Community educators interested in integrating watershed education into their programs
