Protecting Northern Michigan's Water Resources

2018 Septic Emmet County Septic Question Report

The Septic Question Project was a grant partnership between the Health Department of Northwest Michigan and Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council, funded by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. The goal of the Project was to closely examine septic system policies for the entire Lake Charlevoix Watershed, identify any problems, and examine potential ways to solve them. The committee was also charged with creating a Final Report for decision makers. However, as the Project unfolded, it became obvious that this information would be useful to other watersheds. Therefore, we created additional versions. This is the 2018 Emmet County version of the Septic Question Project Final Report, which includes specific policy options for local units of government to consider in order to best protect the precious water resources of this area.
